La Guajira, Colombia is inhabited predominantly by the Wayuu (pronounced “Wah-You”) indigenous tribe. The Wayuu inhabit the arid Guajira Peninsula straddling the Venezuela-Colombia border, on the Caribbean Sea coast. They live in sectors called “Rancherías”, which are 5 or 6 home settlements. The Wayuu women are known for their cultural practice of hand crocheting the Mochila Bag.
